Description
Arclight Dynamic's Most Advanced HD CNC Plasma Table
The Arc Max X isn’t just a step up from air plasma — it’s a different category of output entirely. Powered by the Hypertherm XPR 170 X-Definition HD plasma cutting system, it produces weld-ready parts straight off the table in mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Less grinding. Less rework. Less time between cut and ship.
Every Arc Max X ships standard with the Hypertherm XPR 170 and Core Plus gas console — so you’re not piecing together a capable system after the fact. You’re cutting HD quality on day one. For shops with higher-volume or specialized material needs, upgraded console options including VWI and OptiMix are available to match your production demands as they grow.
The platform is engineered to protect that cut quality at every point in the process. Servo motors deliver the high-speed, precise motion control needed to maintain accuracy at full production speeds. A rigid welded steel frame, aircraft-grade aluminum gantry, and precision linear rails keep your tolerances tight shift after shift. And because FlashCut CNC manages gas flow, arc voltage, and height control automatically via EtherCAT, your operators stay focused on running parts — not babysitting settings.
Every Arc Max X goes through Arclight’s intensive quality control process — fully assembled and tested before it ever leaves the facility. From there it’s backed by 3-day onsite installation and training and lifetime technical support from Arclight Dynamics. Proudly made in America. From the day it arrives, it’s built to make your shop faster, more capable, and more competitive.

The Arc Max X is built on a fully welded unitized steel frame — not bolted together like most production-grade plasma tables. The frame is stress-relieved and precision-machined after welding, providing the rigid foundation that HD cutting accuracy demands. No flex, no drift, no vibration-induced quality issues — just a platform that holds tolerance shift after shift.
- Fully welded construction — not bolted or assembled from modular sections
- Stress-relieved and precision-machined after welding for dimensional stability
- Engineered to support the rigidity requirements of X-Definition HD plasma cutting
- Reduces vibration that compromises cut quality and edge finish
The gantry is machined from aircraft-grade aluminum — strong enough to maintain precise torch positioning at high travel speeds, light enough to minimize inertia during rapid direction changes. The result is consistent cut quality across the full cutting envelope, even in demanding production cycles.
- Machined from aircraft-grade aluminum for an optimal strength-to-weight ratio
- Reduced gantry mass means faster acceleration and deceleration without sacrificing rigidity
- Maintains precise torch positioning across the full length of the cutting bed
- Designed to perform consistently in high-duty-cycle production environments
Hiwin® 20mm precision linear rails are the industry benchmark for CNC motion accuracy. On the Arc Max X, they provide smooth, low-friction travel across both axes — maintaining tight tolerances cut after cut without the wear and slop that degrades quality over time on lesser rail systems.
- Hiwin® 20mm linear rails on both X and Y axes
- Industry-standard precision components used in high-performance CNC applications worldwide
- Low-friction travel protects positioning accuracy at full production speeds
- Significantly more durable than v-groove or round rail alternatives found on lower-cost tables
The Arc Max X is driven by servo motors on both axes, delivering the speed, torque, and precise positioning that HD plasma cutting demands. Unlike stepper-based systems, servo motors provide real-time feedback and correction — maintaining accuracy at full production speeds and through rapid direction changes.
- Servo motors on both X and Y axes for full closed-loop motion control
- Real-time position feedback continuously corrects for any deviation during cutting
- Supports high-speed rapid travel for faster cycle times between cuts
- Delivers the precise, responsive motion control that X-Definition HD quality requires
The Arc Max X uses precision helical rack and pinion drives on both axes — not the standard spur gear racks found on entry-level tables. The angled tooth engagement delivers smoother motion, reduced backlash, and more consistent positioning at full production speeds, protecting cut quality over the long life of the machine.
- Helical rack and pinion on both axes — the drive system of choice for industrial HD plasma tables
- Angled tooth geometry creates smoother, quieter motion than straight-cut spur gear racks
- Reduced backlash means tighter positioning accuracy and more consistent cut geometry
- More durable wear pattern extends the service life of the drive system under heavy production use
The Arc Max X features an 8-inch deep water table — significantly deeper than the standard 4–5 inch tables found on most CNC plasma tables. More water depth means better heat absorption, more effective fume suppression, and a cleaner shop environment during high-volume production cutting.
- 8-inch deep water table for superior heat and fume management
- Deeper water volume absorbs more heat from cutting, reducing warping on thinner materials
- Suppresses smoke and particulate at the source, improving operator visibility and air quality
- Longer intervals between water changes during high-volume production runs
- Available in 5×10 and 6×12 cutting bed configurations
The Arc Max X goes through Arclight’s intensive quality control process — fully assembled and production-tested before it ever leaves the facility. Combined with your included 3-day onsite installation and training, you’re up and cutting faster and with the confidence that your system was set up right from the start.
- Ships fully assembled and production-tested through Arclight’s rigorous QC process
- Minimizes installation time and gets your shop cutting faster
- Includes 3-day onsite installation and training with every Arc Max X
- Reduces the risk of setup errors that affect long-term performance and cut quality
Every Arc Max X is backed by lifetime technical support from Arclight Dynamics. When you have a question or an issue, you’re talking to the people who built your machine — not a general call center. It’s support that scales with your shop for the life of the table.
- Lifetime technical support included with every Arc Max X — no expiration, no tiered plans
- Direct access to the Arclight Dynamics team who designed and built your machine
- Support covers software, hardware, cutting processes, and system optimization

FAQ
Most CNC plasma tables use air plasma — which is fast and affordable, but leaves you grinding, deburring, and reworking before parts are usable. The Arc Max X is built around the Hypertherm XPR 170 X-Definition HD plasma cutting system, which delivers ISO Range 2 cut quality on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. That means weld-ready edges straight off the table, dramatically longer consumable life, and a lower cost per cut over time. The machine itself is engineered from the ground up to support HD cutting — with a welded unitized steel frame, servo motors, helical rack and pinion drives, and Hiwin® 20mm linear rails providing the rigidity and precision that X-Definition quality demands. It’s not just a better plasma table — it’s a different category of output entirely.

The Arc Max X cuts mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum — all with X-Definition HD cut quality. The standard Core Plus gas console is configured to deliver full XPR 170 performance on all three materials right out of the box, including argon-assist capability for enhanced piercing on thicker materials. For shops with higher-volume stainless or aluminum requirements, upgraded console options are available. The VWI console adds water-injection shielding for improved non-ferrous cut quality, and the OptiMix console delivers discrete 3-gas mixing for the highest level of stainless and aluminum cutting capability available in plasma. Whatever your material mix, the Arc Max X has a configuration built for it.
If the intent is full production capability and the machine will see heavy plate on a regular basis, then the Arc Max is an excellent choice. the unitized steel frame is robust and well suited for thick materials. The HIWIN Linear guide rails have sealed cassette bearing block housings with grease-able zerk fittings for easy maintenance. The Arc Max tables also come standard with the following:
- Welded, unitized steel frame with 3×3, 3/16″ wall steel tubing
- HIWIN precision linear rails and slides on all axis
- An 8″ extra deep water pan with expanded metal at the 4″ mark to catch small parts for easy access. The extended depth water pan allows for increased run time before the pan needs to be cleaned= less maintenance.
- 8″ raised gantry clearance standard
- Rollers to help loading of large, heavy plate onto the bed of table as a standard feature
- The material support slat height is flush with the table frame
- Frame skirting is a standard Feature
- Twin ball valves for easy draining and filling of water pan

The Hypertherm XPR 170 offers a maximum mild steel production pierce capacity of 1-9/16″ (40mm). When starting from the edge of the plate, mild steel capacity extends up to 2-3/8″ (60mm). The Arc Max X is designed for the mid-range plate thicknesses where X-Definition cut quality delivers the greatest advantage over air plasma — producing cleaner edges, tighter tolerances, and weld-ready parts that don’t require secondary processing. If you’re regularly cutting material at or near these thicknesses and still relying on air plasma, the quality and productivity difference is significant.

Fiber laser delivers excellent cut quality on thin material, but comes with significantly higher capital costs, more demanding facility requirements — including clean power, chiller systems, and enclosures — and higher operating expenses, particularly on thick plate. The Arc Max X delivers cut quality that rivals laser on mild steel at a fraction of the investment, with lower operating costs per part on the material thicknesses most fabricators run daily. For shops cutting mid-range plate in steel, stainless, and aluminum, HD plasma is the more practical and profitable choice. It also handles materials in any condition — including rusted, painted, or scaled plate — where laser performance degrades significantly.
Want a detailed side-by-side cost comparison for your specific material mix? Talk to a specialist and we’ll run the numbers with you >>
The XPR 170 is engineered to dramatically reduce operating costs compared to both air plasma and previous-generation HD systems. The three main cost drivers are consumables, gas, and power. On consumables, the XPR 170’s extended consumable life is significantly longer than air plasma — meaning fewer change-outs and lower consumable spend per part. Gas costs depend on your console configuration and material mix, but fully CNC-controlled gas management minimizes waste from operator error or inconsistent setup. Power consumption is optimized through Hypertherm’s engineered system efficiency built into the XPR platform. The result is a meaningfully lower cost per cut over the life of the machine compared to the systems most fabricators are running today.
